ABOUT THE DAUGHTERS Of The KING

The Daughters of the King is a religious order for women in the Episcopal Church, with chapters in the Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Episcopal Church, and the Lutheran ELCA Church.  Each member undertakes a Rule of Life, pledging herself to a lifelong program of prayer, service and evangelism, dedicated to the spread of Christ's Kingdom.   

The Order was begun in 1885 in New York City by Mrs. Margaret Franklin and in 1896, Junior Daughters began in Washington, D. C.  In purpose and origin, the Order is closely allied with the Brotherhood of St. Andrew. 

The emblem of the Order is a silver Greek cross, which members wear at all times.  Latin words inscribed on the cross broadly translate,

"With heart, mind and spirit uphold the Cross". 

Although the Daughters cannot raise funds in the name of the Order, dues and gifts support the Self-Denial Fund, Master's Fund, and Endowment Fund. These funds support mission ministries, medical teams, orphanages, schools, women in accredited colleges seeking church-related careers, and many other ministries around the world.

There are 24 members in the combined chapters of Emmanuel and Good Shepherd Episcopal, who meet on the second Sunday of each month.  The meetings are in alternating churches and consist of worship, business and study.  The Daughters pray daily for needs and treat requests as a confidential trust.

In World war II there was an advisor to Churchill who organized a group of people who dropped what they were doing everyday at a prescribed hour for one minute to collectively pray for the safety of England, its people and peace.

There is now a group of people organizing the same thing here in America. If you would like to participate, every evening at 9:00p.m. Eastern Time (8:00p.m. Central), stop whatever you are doing and spend one minute praying for the safety of the United States, our troops, our citizens, and for peace in the world.
